Grade 440C stainless steel is a high carbon martensitic stainless steel. It has high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and good hardness and wear resistance. Grade 440C is capable of attaining, after heat treatment, the highest strength, hardness and wear resistance of all the stainless alloys. Its very high carbon content is responsible for these characteristics, which make 440C particularly suited to such applications as ball bearings and valve parts.

Corrosion Resistance: 440C stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments. It can withstand exposure to water, mild acids, and other corrosive substances without corroding or rusting.
Strength: 440C stainless steel has high strength and hardness, making it ideal for applications that require high mechanical strength and resistance to wear. It has a minimum tensile strength of 760 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 450 MPa.
Ductility: 440C stainless steel has low ductility, which means that it cannot be formed or shaped easily. This property makes it suitable for applications that require high hardness and resistance to wear.
Weldability: 440C stainless steel is difficult to weld due to its high carbon content. It is not recommended for welding, and if welding is required, a low-heat input method such as TIG welding should be used.
Magnetic Properties: 440C stainless steel is magnetic, which makes it suitable for applications that require magnetic properties.
Heat Resistance: 440C stainless steel has good heat resistance and can withstand high temperatures without losing its strength or corrosion resistance. It can withstand temperatures up to 315°C (600°F) without undergoing any significant change in its properties.
